The LaVerde Cheeseburger

The LaVerde Cheeseburger
This burger almost got the best of the ventilation system at Laverde -
much smoke and meaty smell, and another thin layer of grease on everything.
And while the photo is not incredibly appetizing after the ride back to BCS,
this thing is actually pretty tasty.
Even if the meat is frozen low grade junk,
I don't really mind the prepackaged plasticky buns
and laverde actually has pretty ok vegetables.

To conclude:
Burgers burgers burgers,
I like Burgers.
Now back to the science.

HiFi giant steak-cheese-sub

ok, maybe this thing is not a cheeseburger, lets get that out of the way.
However! We got TONS of ugly meat, gratuitous amounts of cheese, as much mayo as you could ever not want but still love, onions, some peppers, all wedged between two pieces of leathery carb so i'd say its close enough.

The bubbly stuff on the front end you ask? probably some cheese-mayo mixture. This beast soaks trough a paper plate and two layers of thick wax paper faster than a broken whisky bottle, its sorta incredible. It probably looks the same on the way out too! Oh yea, and its SO GOOD. And its huge - better take a fork and eat half of the meats before touching that thing with your hands.

The proud people of Hi-Fi really know what they are doing here. Everything is prepared just in front of your eyes from probably sorta fresh ingredients. You can watch the cheese melt into the pile of meat-onion melange while wondering if you should order spaghetti just to see what the 'pasta-magic' machine looks like in action even if it looks like the water in there has been doing its job for a while and is so starchy it would solidify if ever left to cool down.

Um so, verdict: tasty!

Craigie-on-Main: The fancy-schmancy burger.

Well, we finally did it. The core members of the Boston Cheeseburger Society walked the .4 miles down Main Street from our general residence in order to try what we hoped to be the classy burger to end all classy burgers: the delicious, gooey and barbecue-y cheeseburger from Craigie on Main that you see pictured to the left. I am not sure what you call exactly what they did with those onions you can see peaking out from underneath the toasted bun, but whatever it was, it was exactly the right thing to do to those onions you can see peaking out from underneath the toasted bun. You have to order the burger at the bar, but that's not so bad because the bartenders are friendly and will make you fantastic drinks while you wait (the Improper Bostonian recently named Tom Schlesinger-Guidelli as best mixologist in the Boston area).

And that pile of crunchiness next to the burger? Sweet potato fries. Superb.

Other members of the BCS: please discuss.

Five Guys, Dedham

Sometimes you can decide to ignore the fact that you have a ton of work piled up, take a 12 mile drive to the middle of nowhere just to get burgers and it still being a good idea.

The reason for this is the Five Guys Burger joint in Dedham. The burgers are huuuge, the meats are just perfectly juicy, there are lots of toppings to choose from and they have unlimited (they have frigging truckloads of those stacked next to the door) peanuts that you peel and devour by yourself.

I dont know if it was the drive there and all the buildup, but this stuff was so good that it felt appropriate that afterwards i felt like i was about to give birth to something.

And the waitress will probably hit on you, too!

It sure isn't the fanciest joint in town, but you gotta hand it to them -- they do make a good cheeseburger. Recently discovered that for $4, you can get a cheeseburger and fries during Happy Hour (between 5-7, Mon-Thurs). That is unheard of in Central Square, and, I believe, cheaper than McDonald's (which is right down the road and will, I'm sure, be reviewed at a later date).

Not a huge fan of the "club" scene at night, but this blog is not about dancing, it's about burgers.
