The original source of the Cambridge food coma

Now, it may be the Lower Depths that caused us to form the Bacon/Cheeseburger Society. However, it's really the Miracle of Science that inspired us to be such avid Cambridge cheeseburger connoisseurs.

Some of us (ahem, Chris, ahem) claim that the burgers are a bit too "frou-frou" -- and I will admit, they do come on a bit of a fancy bun for my general tastes. However, the fact remains that MoS will be one of my true hamburger loves for the rest of my life. It has several features that I would be hard pressed to forget.

  • It is located pretty much across the street from a) my home and b) my place of work.
  • The home fries exemplify one of the greatest ways this side of the Mississippi to prepare potatoes.
  • The cheeseburgers may be served on frou-frou buns, but they are juicy and delicious.
  • Speaking of cheese, you do always have the option of several cheeses including (I believe) cheddar, pepperjack, and bleu.
  • It's got that Cambridge feel.
For this reason, I believe it deserves to be the second post of the BCS. Also, Jak once tried to explain to me 2-photon microscopy or some such nonsense there (FINE...and yes, and I do know the difference). Damn astrocytes.

Inaugural post -- The Lower Depths, part 1

BCS. You may think we're referring to Course 9, when in fact we are referring to the inauguration of a new way of thinking according to the Bacon/Cheeseburger Society.

For our first adventure into the underworld burger culture of Boston and the surrounding areas, we ventured across the river to the Lower Depths Tap Room. Some highlights:

  • The meat. Is cooked. In bacon grease. Need I say more?
  • $1 Fenway Hot Dogs. You do have to pay an extra dollar for each topping, but in my humble opinion, they are perfect with just a thin line of ketchup.
  • The Quesadilla Burger. How had one of us not thought this up before? A delicious, bacon-grease-infused burger wrapped in a tortilla with guac and all the cheesy goodness you would expect. Brilliant.
So, our cursory and hastily planned first experience went well. We shall of course be reporting back with future visits to one of the reasons we began the BCS in the first place.
